This summer's hit action flick, Wanted, hits streets on DVD & Blu-Ray next Tuesday, the 2nd. While I didn't get a chance to see it in theaters (although I did see the first 10 min or so when they started it instead of Hellboy 2) I did read the graphic novel and thus am very interested to see how the movie turns out minus the Superhero/Supervillain element.

Well the kind people over at Universal sent over some clips from the DVD and I thought I'd share them with you.

First up is Searching for the Hero about the search for the perfect person to play the male lead, which ultimately lead them to James McAvoy.

Next up is Angelina Jolie Kicks My Ass which shows Angelina basically kick the crap out of McAvoy and how those shots were filmed.

Aside from the 2-disc special edition which you can get as both a DVD and Blu-Ray, there is also Limited Edition Collector's set that will include a Book of Assassins, Collectible Postcards and Motion Film Cell.
To see all you can get in the collector's set, check out this video.

Enjoy and have a Happy Turkey Day Tomorrow!

So you may remember over the past couple of years mentioning a movie called My Name is Bruce. The movie stars and was directed by Bruce Campbell, the King of B Movie Actors. Well the movie has finally, quietly been released. Starting this past Sunday Campbell kicked off a 20 city tour of the movie, which will be released on DVD in the next couple of months.

The movie premiered on Sunday, October 26th here in Austin at a screening which sold-out in 2 minutes. (the fastest a movie has sold-out since 1999 when tickets to an Evil Dead Marathon with Campbell in attendance.) Luckily I was able to get one of these coveted tickets and it is with much glee that I tell you I not only got to see My Name is Bruce, I got to see the man himself as he introduced the film and did a Q&A afterwards.

The film will be well received by fans of Campbell, and should get some love from anyone who loves B movies, and cheesy horror flicks in general (Although it you love either of these and aren't a fan of Campbell I don't think you really love B movies or Cheesy horror as he's the king of both.) But I'll give a fair warning to those who don't really know Campbell you won't enjoy it near as much as us fans as there are a ton of inside jokes, mostly poking fun at Bruce and his storied career.

The movie opens with a couple of small town folks singing a song about Guan-Di, the Chinese god of Vengenance and Bean Curd (yes it's absurd). When a teen boy, and Bruce's self-proclaimed number 1 fan unwittingly unleashes Guan-Di on a small town in Oregon his master plan is to kidnap Bruce and have him fight off the monster. Because as we all know actors can totally do everything that the characters they play can.

The movie's Bruce is a bit of a prick, he's loud, crude, and treats everyone around him like crap. His wife's left him and he spends the nights alone with his dog drinking lots and lots of Shemp whiskey. Now while Bruce is playing himself, it's much like NPH's version of himself in the Harold & Kumar movies, in that it's over the top and a very fictional version of the real man. But man is it fun to watch. Bruce is clearly having a great time playing himself and it shows.

Now once he's kidnapped it's clear the town hasn't completely thought this through. First Bruce thinks it's an actual movie shot guerrilla style. Second it's quite clear he's an incompetent oaf who couldn't plan out how to kill a fly let alone a big, bad monster. But the town doesn't seem to notice this until there first attempt at killing the monster ends in several deaths (some from Bruce who just fires his Boom-Stick in every direction without looking). And as Bruce runs away to live another day, he breaks the heart of our teen fan and his mother (who happens to be Bruce's love interest)

I don't want to give it all away, but know there is a surprise ending or two. Campbell not only starred in the film, but he also directed it as well. The script comes from Mark Verheiden of BSG fame, and came about from an old book in which I believe Errol Flynn was kidnapped and forced to fight real pirates. They sent it to Campbell who says he loved that they wanted him to direct a movie making fun of himself.

The movie is just about as perfect as a B movie can get. First it star Campbell, who as I said is basically the king of B movies, and owns that fact beautifully. Second it's got a horrible cheesy villian, bad effects, and some amazingly awful dialogue. If you're looking for a wonderful art house indie go somewhere else. But if you're looking for some sweet Bruce Campbell action, or a cheesy waste of 90 minutes, you can't go wrong with My Name is Bruce.

I got tagged by my friend Ruth. My directions were to post the 6th picture in my 6th album on my computer and then explain it.
Well I use a Mac so I don't have albums all my photos are just thrown together in iPhoto. So instead I chose a photo I like that some people may have never seen.

Yes that's me and Jason Bateman of Arrested Development, Juno, and Teen Wolf Too fame! I met him for a brief photo op during the Writers Strike last year, in which I participated in by walking the picket lines.
I stopped him as he was walking by and since no one was real close he offered to take it "Lover's Style" by leaning close together and taking it himself. He made a few funny comments that I don't remember, except he made me laugh and then we parted ways.
He's a genuinely funny and nice guy.
You can see more of my strike photos here and some videos here.
I just looked back at that post and here's what I said about the Bateman picture originally:
"When I asked if he's mind taking a picture he said sure and as I looked around for someone to take it he said we should just do it ourselves and grabbed the camera. After taking this great photo (I assume he's done this quite a few times) a guy came along and asked if we wanted him to take it, Jason's response: "No we're doing it lovers style" and told me to tell people "We'd just started seeing each other""
So there you go. I'm supposed to tag someone else so:
Jeremiah Jackson, Jon Grubbs, Shea Weaver, Taylor Tidmore, Zach "The Future", and Laura "Formerly Rich" Daulton.

As you know this blog is primarily an entertainment blog and so I very rarely discuss my personal life or things like politics on here, but today as the country has elected a new President I thought I'd share my thoughts with you.

Growing up I was raised conservative, but since becoming an adult I feel like I fall more in the independent arena with a leaning towards the right, you could call me a liberal conservative. I don't think the republican party has it all right, in fact there's several things I think they have wrong. Same goes for the democratic party I don't think they have everything right, but I don't think they have everything wrong either. But as I said I lean more towards the republican party.

But over the past few years it's been tough to really care for either party as each has done it's fair share to tear this country apart and make us as divided as this country has been in a long, long time. It actually scares me how divided the country has become and it feels like for the past few years verbal attacks of one party on the other has reached an all time high.

In fact for the last few years I've found myself saying the same thing over and over. Mainly it comes up when I see bumper stickers with phrases such as "Impeach Bush," "Buck Fush," "Somewhere in Texas a village is missing its idiot," or "Axis of Evil" (featuring Bush's picture or name along with others). My feeling is this: It's our duty as a country to get behind the man the people elected and support him or her.

I'm not saying you have to, or even should, agree with everything they do. I don't even have a problem with speaking out about the things you don't agree with. I do on the other hand think we should not spend our time and energy insulting and rebuking whoever holds that office. Whether or not you believe Bush has done things wrong or right, you should show respect for a man who took on the hardest job in this country, and gives 4 or 8 years of his life to serve this country in the highest office there is. It's easy to see that this is not an easy job, just take a look at pictures of any president before and after he's been in office and you can see how haggard and worn down they all look. And yet these men give up most of their lives for the time their in office to serve us.

I'll admit I was disappointed last night to see my candidate John McCain lose this election. But I can honestly say I'm proud to see that the country elected a man who was not Caucasian, as every other President has been. It shows me that this country is still headed in the right direction even as we are divided by political parties.

But today I realized something, come January 20th it will be my turn to practice what I preach. And so I'm proud to say that I will support Barack Obama as he becomes this fine nation's fourty-fourth President. Now I may not always agree with Obama's policies or his decisions. And I may let people know that I don't agree, but I promise to show that in a way that is contstructive not destructive. I will try my hardest not to make personal attacks on Obama. Because as I've said while you may not agree with their policies, the man in that office deserves our respect.

So Congratulations to President-Elect Barack Obama, I look forward to supporting you during your time in office.

"A long, long time ago I can still remember how that music used to make me smile."

No I'm not talking about 'American Pie' one of the greatest songs ever sung, instead I'm remembering when I saw 'Role Models' way back in April and the temporary music which was laid over the climactic battle that takes place at the end of the movie. They hadn't yet scored the movie and instead used the themes from one of my favorites, 'Back to the Future,' and it made me smile.

Back in April the movie was called "Little, Big Men" and it was still a very, very rough cut. But it was a very, very funny movie, one that looks just like the one I've seen in the trailers. And if it was as good as the cut I viewed then you're in for a treat.

The movie follows Danny (Paul Rudd, a CineManiac favorite) and Wheeler (Sean William Scott) who must become Big Brothers for an organization called Helping Hands after they are put on community service. When we meet the duo Danny is a hothead who's just been dumped by Beth (The beautiful and funny Elizabeth Banks) and Wheeler is a full time party boy. Both of them have their problems and it's obvious that by the time the movie ends they'll have grown up, at least a little.

The duo are quickly paired up with the two boys that no one wants to mentor, Augie (Superbad's Christopher Mintz-Plasse), an avid L.A.R.P.er (Live Action Role Player), and Ronnie (Bobb'e J. Thompson), a young foul mouthed boy who tries to run off Wheeler as soon as he meets him. Both kids clearly need some guidance and it's up to these two misfits to offer it to them as best as they can.

The movie has the typical big brother/little brother bonding moments, but with more cussing than most movies (This one's definitely not for the kiddos) of their ilk. The best part of this movie is easily the L.A.R.Ping scenes. The battle I mentioned earlier, which consumes most of the third act, is brilliant in how awesomely sad and hilarious it is. It's amazing to me how these people can spend their time making costumes and living in what is basically an alternate reality, but it's facinating to watch them, even if it is in a ficitional movie. (I've just added Monster Camp, a documentary about real LARPers to my Netflix cue.)

The entire movie is funny, but the end battle is something that has to be seen in order to comprehend fully. But I can't warn you enough that this movie is rated R for a reason, the language is something most parents would not want their kids to hear, sadly most of it comes from child actor Thompson, whose mother approved of the script.

Overall it's a very funny film that will have you rolling as long as the language doesn't offend you. It's well written by Rudd, Director David Wain, Ken Marino, and Timothy Dowling. and the entire cast does a great job (be on the lookout for the great Ken Jeong the comedian doctor who can be seen in Knocked Up). Overall it's another one for the folks who are fans of the Apatow Gang and it's extended family.

So there's finally some more news on the Fanboys front. As you may recall it was announced that the original Cancer version would be released sometime in the 4th quarter this year. Well with The Weinstein's pushing back almost all of their films from 2008 to 2009 Fanboys has finally gotten a firm release date: February 6th, 2009. Now if you've been following the ongoing Fanboys saga as I have you may recall it was originally supposed to be released on Valentine's day 2007. The movie was so close to coming out that the February 2007 issue of Geek Monthly Magazine featured Kristen Bell on the cover and in an article about the movie.

But finally after 2 years of waiting (This will be the third year in a row that Fanboys appears on my list of movies I'm looking forward to in the new year) it looks like we might get to see the finished product. (I myself missed a chance to see a test screening way back in Dec of 2006, but couldn't make it so I've been waiting a long time.)

While we wait the 4 months until release you can check out the new preview for Fanboys Here.
And below you can see the new poster for the movie via Cinematical. I must agree with the folks over at SlashFilm in that it's a bit done, since it clearly is playing off of The 40-Year Old Virgin poster which came out over 3 years ago and has since been done several times. I'd like to see something playing up the Star Wars aspect a bit more. Hopefully we'll get another one before the movie is released.
