Hey Kids, as most of you know Next Friday sees the release of the much anticipated Watchmen movie (I already have my ticket to see it on Saturday at the Drafthouse)

I wanted to give you the heads up that next week, NBC Networks will be airing never before seen exclusive Watchmen character profiles during the programming of shows on NBC, USA and SCIFI to gear up for the release.

You can see a short preview clip on NBC.com for a little taste of what's to come.

Also, below are some more specific details on exactly what character profiles will be airing when.
   * March 1 – Dr. Manhattan airs exclusively during “National Treasure” on USA Network.
   * March 2 – Rorschach airs exclusively during “Heroes” on NBC.
   * March 4 – Ozymandias airs exclusively during “Ghost Hunters International” on SCI FI.

   * March 5 – Silk Spectre II airs exclusively during “Burn Notice” on USA Network.
   * March 5 – The Comedian airs exclusively during “30 Rock” on NBC.

Following their network airing, the clips will be available for viewing on nbc.com/watchmen.

So are you gearing up to see Watchmen?  Have you read the graphic novel?  If so will you be rereading it or going in fresh?  Let me know.

One of the most underrated new shows last season, comes back for an uninterrupted 13 week run on The CW.  Starring Bret Harrison as Sam, the show follows him as he collects escaped souls as the Devil's (played by the great Ray Wise) bounty hunter.  And this season we find out if Sam is the son of the Devil or not.

If you haven't seen the show before, check it out next Tuesday and if you have get ready for the return.

Friday the 13th: The Follow-Up
The Friday the 13th sequel is already gearing up.  Damian Shannon & Mark Swift who wrote the original will be writing the 2nd film in the rebooted franchise (the 13th overall), just don't call it a sequel.  The duo say this won't be a sequel as much as a follow-up.  Although no one knows what that means, to me it seems like they're hinting at going with an all new cast.  Movie is looking at a late 2010 release.  (WeAreMovieGeeks )

Barrymore to Direct Eclipse?
The 2nd Twilight movie isn't even filming yet, but EW says that Summit is already looking for a new director to tackle the 3rd film in the series.  This time up: Drew Barrymore.  You may remember all the buzz around Twilight for being the highest grossing film directed by a woman.  But when Summit went with Chris Weitz for the sequel, New Moon, people through a fit as it was somehow sexist.  Well looks like Summit is trying to give another woman a chance.  The real question is can Barrymore direct?  Her directorial debut, Whip It, hasn't come out yet, so it remains to be seen why Summit would even trust her with their hit series. (Entertainment Weekly )

New Trek Pics
New Star Trek pics are up over at Totalfilm!

New Wolverine Pics
And there's a new poster and promo pics for Wolverine up at various sites, but Slashfilm has collected them.  I have to agree with Slashfilm in that the Poster is complete crap.

I'll admit when I first saw the preview for Taken I wasn't sure how to respond.  I mean Liam Neeson, a 56-year old, as the lead in an action movie?  I just couldn't see it.  But then I heard some people talking about how good the movie was and suddenly I wanted to give it a chance.  So I did.

Taken stars Neeson as Bryan Mills, a former gov't agent, who has retired to spend more time with his 17 year old daughter, Kim (played by 25 year old Maggie Grace, Lost).  We quickly learn exactly what Mills did for the gov't when some of his old buddies convince him to do a job, with them protecting a young pop star.  When someone tries to attack the star after her concert Mills leaps in to action taking out her attackers and getting her to safety.  Apparently Mills job was "a preventor" keeping bad things from happening to people.

As I said Mills has retired to spend more time with his daughter, who he neglected for his career over the years.  When Kim comes to him for permission to go spend the summer with a friend in Europe, Mills is weary.  But he relents and gives his permission.  Almost as soon as Kim and Amanda get to Europe they are kidnapped and Mills jumps into action.  And this is where the movie kicks it into high gear.

Mills heads to Europe and spend the rest of the movie kicking some bad guys behind.  There are some amazing scenes in this film.  From the amazing car chase, to facing down an entire room full of killers, Neeson proves that his age has no impact on how much butt he can kick.  Everytime it looks like Mills is down for the count he finds a way out and completely demolished the bad guys.

I love action movies, from Die Hard to Bad Boys to The Bourne films, I could watch good (and some bad) action films for weeks.  And Taken falls into this category.  It's the best action movie I've seen in a long time and easily matches the last Bourne film and Casino Royale as far as action goes.  It's got a good plot, that also shines light on an actual problem going on all over the world, and just great, great action.

Now some reviewers have not given this movie it's due, and I think part of it has to do with the fact that too many reviewers measure all films as if they are trying to be award-caliber films.  This movie's not going to win any awards, but as far as action movies go, movies you can eat popcorn too, it's a good one.

I plan on picking it up as soon as it hits Blu-Ray, but you can still see it in theaters, so get your butt out there and see the best action movie of the last year.

Hello folks,
It's that time again. What time? Time for a movie quote! Now there was no quote yesterday, so the picture above is just a random pic I decided to add. The picture comes from this past year's hit comedy Pinapple Express and has nothing to do with the post what-so-ever. So enjoy it. And now for the Quote:

"Kate? It's Dr. Hallen, I'm still at the office... something's come up, I need you back here right away. No you've got to come back, Kate, there's a man here with some sort of a parasite on his arm, assimilating his flesh at a frightening speed. I may have to get ahead of it and amputate. No... I don't know what it is or where it came from."

First one to e-mail me (thecinemaniac.com@gmail.com) or comment wins the last foam finger and Koozie from HBO's Eastbound and Down.

I sat down to watch The Haunting of Molly Hartley (THOMH) last night as I've been on a horror kick recently. But after Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine 3D, I honestly wasn't feeling this one.

THOMH is kind of like a "Beginner's Guide to Horror" I think it would be the perfect movie for a slumber party for girls between the ages of 10 and 13, especially if they've never really seen a horror movie. The movie is rated PG-13 and thus there's not a lot of blood and the scary images aren't too disturbing. It's not a bad movie, the acting is good and the plot is decent, its just not going to impress anyone who's seen a lot of horror movies.

If you missed yesterday's post about the movie here's the synopsis from the press release:

"The Haunting of Molly Hartleyis a horror-filled psychological thriller following a teenager who bravely tries to start her life all over again after surviving a bizarre attack from her psychotic mother. Now, in her posh new private school, Molly is finally starting to fit in, but as she is thrust into a realm of hot parties and hallway gossip, she is haunted by creepy visions and eerie experiences that follow her everywhere, leading to a terrifying secret from her past that will change the course of her life forever."

Overall it's a decent flick, but its not really going to scare you unless you are ultra sensitive to scary movies or are a young girl who hasn't seen many horror films. So moms & dads keep this one in mind the next time you have a slumber party for your pre-teen daughter.

Out on DVD today is The Haunting of Molly Hartley. This hit theaters towards the end of last year and I didn't hear much about it or hear from anyone who saw it. But looking it up online I was surprised how many familar faces there are in it, at least if you own a TV.

The movie centers on Molly (Haley Bennett, College, Marley & Me, Music & Lyrics) a 17 year old girl who has physically recovered from a stab wound inflicted by her mother. Although the scars have healed the mental trama still affects her. Her father, trying to help her recover, has moved her to a new school. But the stress of a new school seems to cause her even more emotional problems and it looks like she may end up as crazy as her mother. But it's far worse than she realized when she discovers she destined to be a servant for the Devil.

Or something like that, to be honest the copy I was sent is sitting unwatched next to the Blu-Ray player because I haven't had time to get to it. But I remember thinking the commercials looked decent and I've been on a horror kick recently so I hope to check it out soon.

Now back to those familiar faces, among the cast are Shannon Marie Woodward of The Riches, Psych, and if I'm think Greek, although that one's not listed on her IMDB. We also have Jake Weber, as the dad, who you may recognize from Medium or American Gothic. And for the CW Teens we've got Gossip Girls' Chase Crawford and 90210's AnnaLynne McCord.

And for you Bonus feature nuts you've got, pretty much nothing as it includes a few interviews with the cast and crew.

I can't tell you if it's good or not, but personally I plan on giving it a chance soon, and let you know if you should pick it up, rent it, or skip it completely.

Yesterday's Quote: "I had no idea a Republican could be that sexy!"

Comes from Woody Allen's Melinda and Melinda which starred Will Ferrell.

Today's Quote is brought to us by HBOs new series, 'Eastbound & Down' You can see a preview of the show below today's quote.
The first person to correctly answer the quote will win an 'Eastbound & Down' Foam Finger and Koozie.

Today's only clue is that it comes from a movie featuring either Will Ferrell or Danny McBride, I'm not saying how big their role in said movie is.

No not the academy award winners, you can go anywhere to see those. Although I will say I was ecstatic to see Slumdog Millionaire take home the top prize, director, and all the other awards it left with. And Ledger's win, which everyone saw coming, brought tears to my eyes and once again made me realize how much I miss him. (It says a lot that I get misty eyed thinking of the death of someone I never knew.)

But I'm sure what everyone wants to know is who won the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway and the Burn Notice Caption Contest. We'll wonder no longer because the names are below.
HGTV Dream Home Giveaway
The Winner is....
Celia Tidmore!!!
(Yes, Celia is my mom, but everyone who entered was either a friend or relative. I had two different people pick a number and had all entrants listed and when they both picked #4, it was clear that was the winner.)

Burn Notice Caption Contest

The Winner is....

Jana Ragsdale!!!

Congrats to the winners, you're prizes should be in the mail soon.

Friday's Quote: ""All right, ... you called down the thunder, well now you've got it! You see that? It says United States Marshal! ...Take a good look at him, ... 'cause that's how you're gonna end up! The Cowboys are finished, you understand? I see a red sash, I kill the man wearin' it! So run, you cur... RUN! Tell all the other curs the law's comin'! You tell 'em I'M coming... and hell's coming with me, you hear?... Hell's coming with me!"

Of course that quote comes from Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) in Tombstone, if there's ever been a better western made I've yet to see it. (The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly is a close second in my book)

Tonight brings us the season finale of both Psych & Monk and I have to admit I'm having mixed emotions about it. Mainly because I love these shows so much I really want more of them, but I'm excited as both episodes sound extremely entertaining.

First up tonight we have the season finale of the penultimate season of Monk. For those of you who weren't aware USA has announced that next season of Monk will be it's last, which means we should be getting close to finding out who killed Monk's wife, Trudy. Which brings us to tonight's episode:
"Mr. Monk Fights City Hall"
In which Monk takes on the City Council when the parking garage where Trudy was killed is slated for demolition in order to build a park, but after Monk intervenes he finds himself investigating the disappearance of a city official key to preserving the site.
Presumably Monk will solve the case before the hour ends, but with it being a season finale, maybe we'll get a cliffhanger. I guess we'll have to watch to find out.
Here's a Clip & Promo from tonight's episodes:

And on Psych we have an episode which looks to be a bit darker than what is the norm for the series. In "An Evening With Mr. Yang" Shawn is taunted by The Ying-Yang killer, a serial killer who haunted Santa Barbara before and has returned to make Shawn his next victim. I don't know much about the episode except that Shawn has to save his mom (Cybil Sheppard) when the killer takes her. Also the episode features the return of Rachel Leigh Cook, who plays the girl Shawn pined over in high school but let get away.
Here's a clip and promo for that episode as well:

Yesterday's Bonus Quote: "I don't know. Not for sure. But I believe he is. You see, before he came down here, it never snowed. And afterwards, it did. If he weren't up there now, I don't think it would be snowing. Sometimes... you can still catch me dancing in it."

Comes from: Winona Ryder in Edward Scissorhands. (The frequent collaborators being Tim Burton and Johnny Depp of course) Congrats to Ruth for being the first to guess the answer.
Today's Quote: "All right, ... you called down the thunder, well now you've got it! You see that? It says United States Marshal! ...Take a good look at him, ... 'cause that's how you're gonna end up! You tell 'em I'M coming... and hell's coming with me, you hear?... Hell's coming with me!
No Clues today as it's a real easy one, and easily one of the best quotes from one of my favorite movies of all time.
Also be sure to check in Monday and Tuesday as we've got a special Sponsored Quote of the Day challenge. On those days the first person to correctly guess the quote will win a foam finger and koozie from HBO's new show 'Eastbound & Down'
On those days each quote will come from a movie that either Will Ferrell or Danny McBride appeared in, the producer and star of the show, respectively.
I'll post Monday & Tuesdays Quotes at 8:00am sharp, so be ready. And again try not to use Google, unless you absolutely have to.

This Morning's Quote: "You are a fear prisoner. Yes, you are a product of fear."

Comes from Patrick Swayze in Donnie Darko.

Congrats to John who got it right, and a late congrats to Jana for getting Wed's quote from Kill Bill.

Today's Bonus quote: "I don't know. Not for sure. But I believe he is. You see, before he came down here, it never snowed. And afterwards, it did. If he weren't up there now, I don't think it would be snowing. Sometimes... you can still catch me dancing in it."

Clues: The director & star of the film are frequent collaborators.

OOPS!: Clearly this wasn't supposed to run until tomorrow morning, but it did, so whatever, you get a specal bonus quote of the day.

Yesterday's Quote:

"Those of you lucky enough to have your lives, take them with you. However, leave the limbs you've lost. They belong to me now."

The clue was that the Director has a new film coming out this year. The Film is "Inglourious Basterds," the Director is Quentin Tarantino. This quote comes from Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. 1.

Personally I can't wait to see IB, but I need to read the script first, which is setting on my desktop.

Today's Quote: "You are a fear prisoner. Yes, you are a product of fear."

Clue: It was released on Blu-Ray last week.

Hey gang,
Just a reminder not only can you see my reviews here but you can read them over at The Exception Magazine's Entertainment section. Currently my Fanboys and Friday the 13th reviews are up there as well.

I'm going to assume if you're even thinking of going to see a film like Friday the 13th, then you probably are not expecting an award level film. Therefore let's acknowledge that any use of terms such as "good movie" or the like are relative to the slasher genre and not to films at large, because let's face it Jason is no Hannibal Lecter and Friday the 13th is certainly no Silence of the Lambs.
But in it's own way Friday the 13th is a good movie, it's just that it's a good slasher movie, and that makes all the difference. Because any member of the audience of a slasher flick is there for two main reasons: to be scared and to see teens/early 20-somethings get killed in creative and unsettling ways. And on these conditions the new Friday the 13th delivers.

Now I've liked horror films for a long time. I like being scared and for some bizarre reason I enjoy those crazy deaths. I first really got into horror films with the self-referential Scream series and then discovered others. But the last few years I've stayed away from most horror films, mainly because more and more they've become something other than horror films, they've become torture porn. And as much as I like creative death scenes and being scared, I don't like being grossed out. And that's what most horror films have become, just scenes or torture designed to gross you out more than scare you.

So I was admittedly reluctant to see the new Friday the 13th, because I was worried it would be more torture porn. But I was surprised to find it was far from it. Although there are some amazing death scenes, there was only one time I really thought the gore went a bit to far and it wasn't too over the line and didn't bother me to much. But I know what you really want to know was how was the movie.

As I've said the movie delivers, as long as you're just looking to be frightened or see some good deaths scenes. While some of the actors do a good job, there is some frighteningly bad acting in this film (I'm looking at you Danielle Panabaker, jeez you were bad and you had some facial expressions that were scarier than Jason without his mask on) and some of the lines were just plain cheesy, but it sure was fun overall.

Now the movie is not so much of a remake as it is a relaunch and so it mashes together events from the first few movies while also adding an original plot line. (The original film saw Jason's mother killing people and in the 2nd film he wears a sack on his head not getting the Hockey Mask until part 3) The movie begins with a recreation of the very end of the original Friday the 13th with Ms. Vorhees getting her head lopped off by the loan survivor, all while Jason secretly watches. The movie then picks up 20 years later as a group of 20-something hikers are setting up camp not far from the old seemingly deserted Camp Crystal Lake. Soon after the story of Jason and his mother is told around the camp fire the tension picks up as Jason arrives in his burlap sack and begins to stalk and kill the campers.

These opening 20 minutes are easily the best part of the movie as they are stacked with tension and some great "jump out of your seat" moments. After Jason has taken out all the campers we cut to 6 weeks later and are introduced to Clay (Jared Padalecki) who is searching for his sister, on of the just disposed of campers. Clay runs into a group of, you guessed it, 20-somethings who are on their way to spend a weekend in D-Bag Trent's (Travis Van Winkle {Who?}) rich parents cabin by the lake. And as you can guess they plan on boozing, smoking, and sexing it up for the weekend. Which of course means Jason will be there to pick them off one by one.

ow there's no reason to go into the plot any more as you already know if you want to see the movie, and you know from here on out it's just going to be a game of cat and mouse. What I will tell you is that not only is the movie scary it's genuinely funny. A lot of the jokes come at Trent's expense which is great, because seriously this guy is unlikable and when he finally gets it, you want to stand up and cheer (you knew he was going to die, stop whining about your spoilers)

So if you're looking for a fun, bloody slasher flick to waste some time, I highly recommend this movie. But you should go soon, because in my opinion movies like this are far better seen with a huge audience who you can hear scream in fear, or yell at the screen. Because horror films really should be a communal experience.

Yesterday's Quote:

You think water moves fast? You should see ice. It moves like it has a mind. Like it knows it killed the world once and got a taste for murder. After the avalanche, it took us a week to climb out. Now, I don't know exactly when we turned on each other, but I know that seven of us survived the slide... and only five made it out. Now we took an oath, that I'm breaking now. We said we'd say it was the snow that killed the other two, but it wasn't. Nature is lethal but it doesn't hold a candle to man.

Came from 1999's Deep Blue Sea starring Thomas Jane, LLCoolJ, and of course the man known as Nick Fury, Samuel L. Jackson. (Because I love my wife and don't want to sleep on the couch I've used a picture that doesn't include Sharks as she's deathly afraid of them, put you can click on the picture and see Sam L. getting munched on right after delivering this line. Or even better look the video up on YouTube.)

BTW, Deep Blue Sea is a really fun movie. It takes all the conventional horror rules (the black guy dies first, etc.) and abandons them, which means you don't know whats going to happen. And it's just a lot of fun.

Today's Quote:
"Those of you lucky enough to have your lives, take them with you. However, leave the limbs you've lost. They belong to me now."
The only clue today is that the Director has a new film coming out this year.

The Original Poster
I have a long and storied history with Fanboys. WAY back (at least in movie years) in December of 2006 I got an invite to a test screening of the film in LA. I had heard of the film off and on over at AICN, but didn't know a whole lot about it. I of course looked it up on IMDB and found that my CelebriCrush, Kristin Bell was in the movie, and immediately wanted to see it. Unfortunately my wife was feeling bad, but made me a promise: We would go see Fanboys opening day, Valentine's weekend 2007. So reluctantly I agreed to wait to see it.

Soon after my (at the time) new favorite magazine, Geek Monthly, had a cover story with Bell about the upcoming release of Fanboys.
February 2007 came and went without the movie being released and I was sad.

Cut to May 2007, some friends of mine are going to Star Wars Celebration 3, which is taking place in LA and was marking the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Star Wars. So I decided to join my friends, since I'd probably never get an opportunity like that again. Of course I was even more inclined to go once I discovered that there would be a Fanboys panel at which several minutes of the movie would be screened and much of the cast would be in attendance.

So on May 25, 2007 I finally got my first glimpse of Fanboys. The director, Kyle Newman, and several of the cast members including, Chris Marquette, Sam Huntington, Dan Fogler, and Kristin Bell introduced the footage and spoke a little about the film. They then screened about 45 minutes of the film (roughly half of the final running time) and it was hilarious, definitely if your a fan of Star Wars.
Afterwards there was a Q & A with all the people who introduced the footage (except Bell who took off once the footage started) at which it was revealed that The Weinstein's had faith in the movie and were putting money back into the film to shoot some extra scenes that had been written. Unfortunately the earliest they could get the cast together was September which meant the movie wouldn't come out until Early 2008. So once again I was stuck waiting for a movie I couldn't wait to see.

Now let me take a break to explain the movie a bit. Fanboys is set in 1998, 6 months before The Phantom Menace was to be released. It's the story of 4 friends who are die hard Star Wars fans. Unfortunately one of them is dying of cancer and only has 3 to 4 months to live, which means he won't live long enough to see Episode 1. So the friends decide to break into Skywalker Ranch and steal a copy of the film, so their friend can see the movie before he dies.

Cut to January 2008, its been months and I've heard nothing about the movie coming out. Luckily I have a good friend who is friends with someone who stars in the film, so I ask him what's up with the movie. Apparently the friend in the movie was not happy, a new producer was involved and they had done research, apparently any mention of cancer in a movie kept an audience from laughing for 5 to 10 minutes. So they had decided to excise the cancer from the film and fill it with nudity, language, and other things which had made Apatow's films so successful.

I quickly ran to my blog and broke the story (Read it Here), mainly because I was upset they were taking out the cancer. Because if you take the cancer out of the above story, you've just got a group of punk kids who decide they can't wait to see a movie and set out to steal it. By Excising the cancer they were ultimately taking out the heart of the film. The story was picked up by Aint It Cool News, and from their it snowballed. A group of actual fanboys, many of whom had donated their authentic star wars costumes to the film, became as angered as I was and created a massive grassroots campaign to keep the cancer in the film. The campaign included a boycott of Weinstein films and getting as many people as possible to e-mail every employee of The Weinstein Co (TWC) to plead for the movie to be released as it should be. The New York Post evetually ran a story citing to both this blog and AICN. Eventually TWC decided to release Fanboys, with cancer, in theaters in November of 2008.

Of course the movie was then once again pushed back and was finally released on 43 screens in 8 cities, one of which was here in Austin, TX. So finally last Wednesday I got to see a movie I've been waiting to see for over 2 years. (And because the movie had a high enough per screen average it was recently announced that it would expand to 10 more cities this Friday!)

So I'm sure you're asking yourself, was it worth the wait? And I answer, Definitely! The movie is really a love letter to Star Wars, Fanboys, and friends. And I can honestly saw if you're a fan of Star Wars you will enjoy this movie. The movie is basically Star Wars joke after Star Wars joke, with a few jokes at the expense of Star Trek thrown in for fun. And my friend and I had a blast, and from the sound of the people around us, they had just as much fun as we did.

The movie as I said before follows four friends played by Huntington, Fogler, Marquette, and Jay Baruchel who decide to go on a road trip to steal a copy of The Phantom Menace so that Marquette's Linus can see it before he dies of cancer. Bell plays their lone gal pal who shows up halfway to safe their butts from the slammer. And all five of the main actors do a great job portraying their friendship and the strains that growing up can have on those relationships. (And Bell looks nice near the end of the film in her Slave Leia gear!)

The other great thing about the movie is all the great cameos. The movie packs in cameos from Star Wars stars such as Billy Dee Williams, Ray Park, and Carrie Fisher, who has the best line of the film. But there's also great cameos from Star Wars fans like Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. And even a cameo from a well known Star Trek actor.

I am excited to see what all they put out on a DVD. I know they shot a lot of footage for an R rated comedy, and since this is PG-13 I assume most of it stayed on the cutting room floor. Also I'm curious as to whether or not they will put out a disc with both the cancer and non-cancer versions of the film so fans can see if we actually won in the end or not.

There's not much more I can say about the movie. It's a great way to spend an hour and a half, as long as you like laughter, otherwise you'll hate it.

Yesterday's Quote:

Now the sun will be up in an hour or so, and we can all get out of here together. You, me, Linda, Shelly. Hmm... Well... not Shelly, she? We'll all be going home together. Wouldn't you like to be going home? I bet you'd like that, wouldn't you? Scott?

Comes from 1981's Evil Dead starring Bruce Campbell. It's a great film and one I enjoy watching every once in a while, although I think Army of Darkness, the 3rd film in the series, is my favorite.

Today's quote is a bit of a toughy. The movie came out the year I graduated high school and the man saying the line is one Fury of a man:

You think water moves fast? You should see ice. It moves like it has a mind. Like it knows it killed the world once and got a taste for murder. After the avalanche, it took us a week to climb out. Now, I don't know exactly when we turned on each other, but I know that seven of us survived the slide... and only five made it out. Now we took an oath, that I'm breaking now. We said we'd say it was the snow that killed the other two, but it wasn't. Nature is lethal but it doesn't hold a candle to man.

Happy Guessing! And again try not to google. It's more fun if you don't know and just guess past on the quote itself and the cluse.

Friday's quote:

“This is a Hallowe'en tale of Brooklyn, where anything can happen - - and it usually does. At 3 P.M. on this particular day, this was happening -”

That quote comes from 1944's Arsenic and Old Lace.

Today's quote:

"Now the sun will be up in an hour or so, and we can all get out of here together. You, me, Linda, Shelly. Hmm... Well... not Shelly, she? We'll all be going home together. Wouldn't you like to be going home? I bet you'd like that, wouldn't you? Scott?"

And today I'll give you a hint the movie came out in the year of my birth and stars one of my favorite actors of all time.

Happy Guessing!

Yesterdays quote:
"No, I'm all man. I even fought in WWII. Of course, I was wearing women's undergarments under my uniform."
That quote came from the great Tim Burton film, Ed Wood. Congrats to Jon Grubbs the first one to get it right.

Todays quote is a bit harder and is the opening line of the film:

“This is a Hallowe'en tale of Brooklyn, where anything can happen - - and it usually does. At 3 P.M. on this particular day, this was happening -”

Happy Guessing!

Today is of course Friday the 13th. A day of Mystery and Pain, or some other superstition. Personally I love Friday the 13th. I think just because the day is so superstition and other people "fear" it I've always loved it.

I used to try and watch scary movies every Friday the 13th, be they from the series with that name or not. But now it's just a normal day. But with the new Friday the 13th coming out today maybe there's a new cause for Friday the 13th fun.

I may see the new movie this weekend, but don't hold your breath. We'll see.

Either way have a good Friday the 13th!

So today I'm beginning a new feature Quote of the day. Each day (hopefully) I'll post a quote and you guess what movie it's from (Try not to cheat with google) and you can guess which movie its from.

I'll give the answer in the next day's Quote. Somedays there may be prizes (depending on what I have and when I have it) and somedays it may just be for fun. For the most part when there are prizes the first correct answer will get the prize, but somedays I might mix it up throw all correct entries in a hat and pick one at random.

So here's today's Quote:

"No, I'm all man. I even fought in WWII. Of course, I was wearing women's undergarments under my uniform."

Write your guesses in the comment section.

HBO's new series Eastbound and Down starring Danny McBride(Pineapple Express) and co-starring Will Ferrell, who also executive-produces, premieres February 15th at 10:30 after Flight of the Concords. The folks at HBO sent over a clip from the set featuring Ferrell and McBride, which I've posted below. They actually sent over one clip and the codes for another. You can see the clean on the set clip Here.

I saw the pilot a few months back (it may have changed since then) and I can say it's honestly hilarious. But it's on HBO for a reason, mainly the language. So while the clip below is clean, actually the preview below is mostly clean with a GD at the very end, know that the series is much filthier.

Again be warned the clip actually posted below contains one cuss word at the very end.

Enjoy:

Probably one of my favorite films of the last decade is a small, indie film which became a cult hit. That film, which you can probably guess from the title of this post, is Donnie Darko. Darko came out of nowhere when it had a limited release in 2001, and didn't really go anywhere. The movie grossed less than a million dollars upon release, not even a quarter of its budget. Luckily the movie became an instant cult classic and gained in popularity enough to warrant the studio giving director Richard Kelly more money to finish the film he originally set out to make. In 2004 this version was released at The Director's Cut. And today both versions of the film are coming to the world in High Definition thanks to Blu-Ray.

I first saw the movie on my computer thanks to a friend who'd given me a copy he got through shady means. (The movie didn't come to out little town of Abilene, Tx so thus we justified it.) I remember being thouroughly confused as I couldn't read the text and thus missed so much. But even with being confused I knew I was watching something brilliant. Months later when it came out on DVD my friend and I sat down and watched it again, and once again I was confused. Even so, I still fell in love with the movie.

I've since watched the film multiple times and each time I've watched it I pick up a little more of the film. I've even watched every special feature and watched the movie with commentary (I love special features and commentary but rarely watch all stuff on the the discs) and I still don't have a complete grasp on the film.

In 2004 when The Director's Cut came out I once again wasn't in a town where it hit screens, so I picked it up the first day it was on DVD. And I've owned it for over 4 years and yet I've still never watched the Director's Cut. But now with it hitting Blu-Ray I aim to do just that.

I hope to have a review of the Blu-Ray disc and it's special features up soon. But for now here's the specs on the disc as well as a little synopsis of the film all from the press release.

"From Director Richard Kelly, this sensational and disturbing masterpiece defies genre boundaries and simple explanations. Starring Oscar®-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (The Day After Tomorrow, Jarhead), DONNIE DARKO follows a delusional high school student who is visited by demonic rabbit with eerie visions of the past – and deadly predictions for the future.

Boasting powerful supporting performances by an all-star cast including Golden Globe®-nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight), Golden Globe®-nominee Drew Barrymore (He’s Just Not That Into You; Charlie’s Angels), Golden Globe®-nominee Jena Malone (Into The Wild, The Ruins), Daveigh Chase (“Big Love”), Golden Globe®-nominee Patrick Swayze (Ghost; Dirty Dancing) and Golden Globe®-nominee Noah Wyle (“ER”), DONNIE DARKO Blu-ray Disc includes two versions of the film: theatrical and director’s cut – featuring 20 minutes of additional footage – audio commentary with writer/director Richard Kelly and Jake Gyllenhaal and more.

Donnie Darko is a disturbed adolescent from a dysfunctional upper middle class family who narrowly escapes death when a jet engine crashes in his bedroom. He has visions of a giant rabbit, Frank, who instructs him to make violent acts and informs him that the world will end in 28 days.

BD-Specific Special Features:

The DONNIE DARKO Blu-ray Disc is presented in widescreen format (2.35:1 aspect ratio) on a 50GB dual-layer disc authored in BD-J with AVC (MPEG 4) compression with English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio, Spanish/French 2.0 Audio plus English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Bonus features include:
Commentary with Writer/Director Richard Kelly and Jake Gyllenhaal (Theatrical Version)
Commentary with Cast and Crew (Theatrical)
Commentary with Writer/Director Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith (Director’s Cut)
D-Box

Standard Definition Special Features

A second standard def disc is also included and presented with English Dolby Surround 2.0 and English Dolby Digital 5.1 in widescreen (aspect ratio 2.35:1). Bonus features include a Donnie Darko Production Diary with optional commentary by director of photography Steven Poster, “They Made Me Do It Too—The Cult Of Donnie Darko,” a storyboard to screen featurette, “#1 Fan: A Darkomentary” and the director’s cut theatrical trailer.
