Last Friday the comics world lost one of their most beloved: Artist (and sometimes writer) Michael Turner. Turner, 37, died Friday night in Santa Monica, CA after an 8 year battle with cancer.

Turner began work at Top Cow as a background illustrator before co-creating Witchblade, other creations included Fathom and Soulfire which he eventually published under his Aspen publishing company after leaving Top Cow.

Turner was best known for his recent cover work, doing covers for both DC and Marvel including DC's event Identity Crisis and Marvel's recent Civil War Event.

Turner was known as one of the nicest guys in the industry and will be missed.
