As with my review yesterday, today's movie is, TiMER, comes from the Tribeca Film Festival. The Festival has several of their films available to view On Demand at this time! (For more information on their On Demand offerings you can head here!) The official synopsis for TiMER says "If a device could guarantee love without heartbreak, would you want to know? Emma Caufield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) stars in this brain teasing romantic comedy about falling in love. Also starring John Patrick Amedori (Gossip Girl). TiMER is rated R for Language.

TiMER is a hard movie to describe, it's part sci-fi, part romance, part drama, and part comedy. I guess you could call it a Sci-FiRomDramedy. The easiest way to describe it though, is entertaining, as it is easily one of the most entertaining films I have seen in a long time.

Emma Caufield stars as Onna, a girl who is trying to find her "one" with the help of a TiMER. In the movies' alternate reality, the TiMER is a device from a very Apple like company, that can accurately tell you the date you will meet your soulmate. The device is implanted into your arm and counts down to midnight of the day you'll meet "the one". The TiMER only counts down when both soulmates have one implanted.

Timer uses this unique premise to look at the idea of soulmates, "the one", and romance in general in an original way and ask a lot of great questions: What does one do when their TiMER doesn't ever start counting down? What do you do, when they meet someone that they connect with, but who they know is not the one? What do you do with your life when you know that you won't meet the "one" until your middle age? To get the answers you'll have to see the movie.

The entire cast including, Caufield, Michelle Borth, John Patrick Amedori, Desmond Harrington, and JoBeth Williams does an incredible job bringing the premise to life. I don't want to say to much, as I don't want to give a lot away, but the movie is definitely one of the best romances I've seen in a long time and one I would highly recommend it.

While I was unable to attend the Tribeca Film Festival this year, as with all years thus far, I do have some good news for those of you, who like me, can't make it. The Festival has several of their films available to view On Demand! (For more information on their On Demand offerings you can head here!)

Today and tomorrow I'll be taking a look at a couple of the films currently available for your viewing pleasure. First up is "My Last Five Girlfriends" which is described as "A clever adaptation of international bestseller On Love, by Alain de Botton, in which Duncan is a young man determined to find the secret to a healthy, strong relationship. Along the way, he mines his last five doomed romances for clues."

I sat down last night and watched the movie from the comfort of my own house, and I will admit, sometimes it is nice to see film at home. But I think I'll always miss the comfort of a movie theater and the experience of seeing it with other patrons. But for those of us who can't travel all over the world for film festivals, On Demand is a nice way to see smaller films, especially ones that may never make it to our neck of the woods.

My Last Five Girlfriends, as the synopsis says, is the story of a English man who, as the song goes, is looking for love, in all the wrong places. The movie opens with Duncan writing a suicide note, specifically to his five most recent Exs. As Duncan collapses after taking a combination of some pills and alcohol, we are introduced to his Ex-girlfriends, in order. In each relationship we see how it began and how it all ended, until we make it back to Duncan and his suicide. I don't want to ruin the ending, so we'll leave it there.

First, I have to say that the visual style of this movie is fascinating. It may be one of the most beautiful films I've seen in a long time, just based on the various wonderful effects used in the film. For example, after we meet #1 in an airplane, their seats rotate away from the plane and we go on a short journey through #1's life, reenacted by barbie dolls. It sounds weird, and slightly ridiculous, but it works. There are numerous examples of off the wall techniques that the director and cinematographer use throughout the film.

Another wonderful idea, that works well, is that throughout the film, we visits a themepark, which I assume is in Duncan's head. It is the themepark of Duncan, and through the various rides we learn his past history with these Exs. It's a unique idea, one that is used just enough that it doesn't get old. It really is a great idea, and allows the use of more of the wonderful techniques I was speaking of above.

Unfortunately, while the movie is fun to look at, and something that a lot of film makers could learn from, it's story fell flat for me. For some reason, I really didn't care about Duncan, or his Exs. And when you don't care about the 6 main characters, it's hard to get invested in the movie. This isn't to say someone else can't love it, it's just that I didn't find any connection to the characters, and so in the end I didn't care.

Overall the film has a great visual style that I would like to see more of, but the story is not something I could watch more than once.

In the elimination round, two contestants go head-to-head in “The Long Shot,” a long-distance sniper challenge which will send the first person home.

In episodes 2 and 3 (Sunday, June 13 and Sunday, June 20), contestants’ skills with the pistol and bow and arrow are put to the test. From muzzle-loading muskets to throwing knives, every challenge will focus on weapons, technologies and techniques of different eras in history as high-speed HD cameras capture the skillful execution of each test in extreme slow-motion.

If you haven't been watching Glee, you're missing one of the best new shows on TV, and a show with one of the best soundtracks ever.  In fact the music is one of the best parts of the show, as it should be on a show called Glee.

Well if you're one of the people out there whose missed out (cough, couch, my brother) and you want to check out the series that I call "Brilliant, hilarious, and filled with show stopping numbers"*  it's coming to stores on Blu-Ray and DVD on September 14, which should give you enough time to catch up before the 2nd season start this fall.  Keep reading for more details, including how True Gleeks, like myself, can get a "Gleebate" if the purchased the previously released "Glee: The Road to Sectionals" DVD.

GLEE: The Complete First Season Blu-ray and DVD arrives September 14 fully loaded with exclusive bonus materials and extended episodes, a sing-along karaoke, a behind-the-scenes look at “The Power of Madonna” episode, Glee Makeovers, never-before-seen “Sue’s Corners” and a dance tutorial titled “Staying in Step with Glee.”

‘Gleeks’ who purchased GLEE: Volume One: Road To Sectionals last winter can receive a special $10.00 “Gleebate” when they add GLEE: The Complete First Season to their collection.

A Musical Triumph
Television’s most award-winning new series is also the highest-rated new scripted series of the season among Adults 18-49. The music from “GLEE” is an international sensation with both “Glee: The Music, Volume 1” and “Glee: The Music, Volume 2” topping charts in Australia, the U.K., New Zealand, Ireland and Canada. In the U.S., over five million songs have been downloaded, and both albums have been certified Gold for sales in excess of 500,000 units. Additionally, the show’s Madonna-themed mini-album soared to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart with an incredible 98,000 copies sold in its first week.

(Kelly Blatz, Drew Seely, Hartley Sawyer, and Matt Bush)

With TBS losing almost all of its My Boys cast to various network pilots, at least two of which have been picked up, it was pretty clear TBS needed a new comedy series.  Apparently, TBS, thinks it has found one as they have announced pick up of new series Glory Daze.  The series focuses on a group of friends as they experience college in 1980s Wisconsin.

To me the series sounds almost like an 80s version of ABC Family's Greek, which is not necessarily a bad thing.  Like Greek I anticipate the friends will be having the "typical" college experience, only with the added bonus of 80s music, clothes, and references.  You can check out the full press release below.

TBS Goes Back to the 1980s with New College Comedy GLORY DAZE

TBS has given the greenlight to the one-hour comedy series GLORY DAZE, a 1980s-set college comedy starring Kelly Blatz (Aaron Stone), Callard Harris (Sons of Anarchy), Matt Bush (High School), Drew Seeley (Freshman Father), Hartley Sawyer (Killian), Julianna Guill (My Alibi) and Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls).  TBS has ordered eight episodes of the series, which was created by Walt Becker (Wild Hogs) and Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree).  GLORY DAZE is slated to premiere on TBS in late 2010.

GLORY DAZE centers on a group of friends who are trying to navigate college life in 1980s Wisconsin.  From being out on their own for the first time to pledging a fraternity, they discover how challenging the next few years are going to be.

“GLORY DAZE is a sharply written, laugh-out-loud comedy with a talented ensemble cast, including comic veteran Tim Meadows,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming, for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM).  “The time is right for this feel-good, funny and fresh take on college life in the ‘80s.”

TBS’s GLORY DAZE is being produced by TBS Productions.  Becker and LeSieur, who wrote the pilot episode, serve as executive producers.

TBS, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., is television’s top-rated comedy network and is available in 100.1 million households.  It serves as home to such original comedy series as My Boys, Neighbors from Hell, Are We There Yet? and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Meet the Browns; the late-night hit Lopez Tonight, starring George Lopez, and the upcoming late-night series starring Conan O’Brien; hot contemporary comedies like Family Guy and The Office; specials like Funniest Commercials of the Year; special events, including star-studded comedy festivals in Chicago; blockbuster movies; and hosted movie showcases.

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner company, creates and programs branded news, entertainment, animation and young adult media environments on television and other platforms for consumers around the world.

You may or not know the name Brad Meltzer. He's a prolific author who has written several legal thrillers, such as The Tenth Justice, as well as some critically acclaimed comic books, including stints on DC's Justice League of America, Green Arrow, and the award winning mini-series Identity Crisis, he also wrote a 4 part arc for Dark Horse Comics' Buffy the Vampie Slayer Season Eight. He most recent novel, The Book of Lies, centered on a conspiracy involving a book that connect the World's first murder, Cain's killing of Able, to the Murder of Jerry Siegel's father, an event which led to the creation of Superman.

Today, Meltzer's new book, Heroes For My Son, hits stands. The new book, which I am very eager to get my hands on, is a non-fiction collection of heroes throughout history -- from Mr. Rogers and Rosa Parks, to Jim Henson and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Meltzer began writing the book after the birth of his son eight years ago. As you can tell by the title of the book, its really for Meltzer's kids, something to show them that there are many types of heroes. And I imagine, to show them examples of great people.

If you're curious about the book you can head on over here to see a few sample pages on Thomas Jefferson and Meltzer's own mother.

If that peaks your interest, or you just want to get a copy for your own children you can head over to Meltzer's website and purchase a copy.

And if you buy a copy and want to meet the author, and maybe have him sign your copy you can see where Meltzer will be on tour here.

Finally, you can check out a couple of videos about the book. You can find a video about Meltzer's Mom here and see a video about the book in general below:
